This document describes how Le Grand Chalet uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on its website, in accordance with article 45c of the Swiss Federal Telecommunications Act (TCA) and, where applicable, with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device (computer, tablet, phone) when you visit a website. It allows the site to recognise your browser, store preferences or measure traffic. This policy also covers similar technologies (pixels, web beacons, local browser storage).
2. Applicable legal framework
Under Swiss law, article 45c TCA authorises the use of cookies provided that the user is informed of their purpose and of the possibility to refuse them (opt-out principle). When the user is located in the European Economic Area, the GDPR additionally requires prior, freely given and explicit consent for cookies that are not strictly necessary.
3. Categories of cookies used
3.1 Strictly necessary cookies
Essential to the operation of the site, they cannot be disabled. They are used, for example, to manage the session, remember your cookie choice or secure the contact form. No consent is required for their use.
3.2 Analytics cookies
They help us understand, in an aggregated and anonymised manner, how visitors use the site, in order to improve its usability and content. Where these cookies are not anonymised at source, their use is subject to your consent.
3.3 Functional cookies
They store preferences (language, currency, display choices) in order to improve your browsing experience.
3.4 Third-party cookies
Some content embedded on the site may set cookies outside our direct control:
- Mews booking engine: technical cookies required to create and track a reservation.
- Embedded videos (YouTube, Vimeo): set only when you start playing a video.
- Maps (Google Maps): set when an embedded map is displayed.
- Social networks: when a page embeds content from Instagram, Facebook or YouTube.
The use of these cookies is governed by the respective privacy policies of the relevant providers.
4. Retention period
Cookie lifespans vary depending on their purpose: session cookies expire when the browser is closed, while persistent cookies are kept for a maximum of 13 months, in line with current recommendations. Beyond that period, your consent is requested again where applicable.
5. Managing your preferences
You may at any time accept, refuse or withdraw your consent to non-essential cookies by adjusting your browser settings. Here are the help pages for the main browsers:
Refusing strictly necessary cookies may result in degraded operation of certain site features (contact form, booking engine, saved preferences).
6. Associated data and privacy policy
Data collected through cookies is processed under the conditions described in our privacy policy, which sets out, in particular, your rights and our obligations under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP).
7. Changes
This policy may be updated to reflect changes to our tools and to applicable legislation. The date of the latest update appears at the top of the page.
8. Contact
